On Friday, April 18 10,000 perch fingerlings will be transported from the Great Lakes WATER Institute to a special raceway at Growing Power. This will be a media event and you are invited to attend at either or both locations.
Meet at the Great Lakes WATER Institute which is located at the East end of Greenfield Ave. at 7-7:30AM for the collection of the fish and follow on to Growing Power, located at 55th and Silver Spring Ave, at 9:30-10AM for the release of the perch in to their new environment.
While the Urban Aquaculture Center is not sponsoring this event, we are very interested in the results of growing perch to adult size in an integrated multi-trophic aquaculture system whereby plants will be employed to cleanse the fish water. Results of this trial will help us with designing the parameters for our 200,000 gallon production facility.
